Calling all young lady budding botanists, naturalists, and science lovers to the Jungle Room for a workshop with Big Dreams Bloom! Join us on December 17 from 1-3 pm for a class empowering girls to DREAM BIG!

During each workshop, Emily of Big Dreams Bloom will share a story and lead the girls in science, art, and STEM activities! They will love participating in the hands-on learning extensions throughout the entire workshop while in the Jungle Room!

This workshop series is geared toward girls in Elementary School (or ages 5 to 12)

About the class

Gwen Frostic was one of America’s foremost nature-inspired artists. After a debilitating illness as a child, Gwen sought solace in art and nature. She observed, studied, researched, and sketched her native woods in all their wondrous detail. She carefully carved the designs of nature into linoleum blocks and brought her images to life on stationery. Known for linocut block prints with simple lines and delicate colors, Gwen dedicated her work and her life to reminding people of the wonder and beauty in nature.

Emily Blomquist of Big Dreams Bloom will read the children’s book Nature's Friend, the Gwen Frostic Story. The girls will learn how her time spent in nature inspired her love of art.

The girls will enjoy trying their hand at linocut block printmaking and creating their own stamps. The girls will use stamping techniques to decorate a canvas bag and pencil pouch. They will also create their own personal stationery. All these will certainly be perfect items for the girls to use for holiday gifts! It’s sure to be a beautiful afternoon in the Jungle Room while learning awesome things about women in science!
